Dance Buddy is unique to Wales The Borough Theatre is very excited to be taking part in Wales’ new dance initiative ‘The Dance Buddy Scheme’. What is the Dance Buddy Scheme? Led by Creu Cymru the scheme aims to partner venues with talented choreographers, allowing them to share resources and promote dance. Each relationship is unique and tailored to suit the needs of the individual theatres and choreographers involved. So meet our Dance Buddy … Joanna Young Hello, I am delighted to be partnered with the Borough Theatre for this exciting new scheme. Being originally from Abergavenny it is rewarding to bring my work back to the first theatre I ever performed in. My first introduction to dance was through Dance Blast, the community dance organization for Monmouthshire. I then went away to train professionally, graduating from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in 2006. Since graduating I have been developing my choreography to critical acclaim, working under the guise of Alice Theatre. Now back in South Wales, I hope to continue to develop my work in partnership with the Borough Theatre. My last piece PenGwyn, a commission from Dance Shorts, was made here in Abergavenny and toured theatres across Wales this year. I have also been showing a film and photography installation at the Art Shop & Gallery in Abergavenny, which ends on the 6th September 2011. In the near future I will be starting a blog for the theatre about my practice and our Dance Buddy relationship. I look forward to entering into a dialogue with you the audience and showing more of my work here in Abergavenny.
